It might just be a surprise to me. I usually go on the website and start scrolling through the Challenges, taking whatever seems interesting at the time! I have a bad habit of taking tonnes of Challenges that will take me forever to get through, but I keep taking more and more.
Which Challenge were you most relieved to finally click Complete on?
I can't think of any specific ones, but the month-long challenges or the ones that I have to do over a larger amount of time are hard for me. My work schedule is so variable that I'm working crazy hours around the clock, and don't have a set schedule from week to week. Sometimes during my sets, all I do is work, eat, sleep, and work out! It's a perk that when we're not overly busy, I can work out at work. We have a gym upstairs, and in my line of work they like us to stay fit!
Love the photos of you monkeying around - do you train with inverted exercises often?
I used to have an inversion table, which I really loved (crunches were especially good upside down)...but mostly it's just me monkeying around! I'm so serious and regimented at work, so when I'm off I like to go crazy and have fun. I'm just a big little kid! Actually, most of my co-workers and friends tell me I'd fit in quite nicely in grade school because I'm so little and look so young!
What big Challenges do you have lined up for 2013?
Well, I've NEVER done any kind of organized races (running, cycling, etc.) before, so my big challenge for this year is to do a half marathon. I was going to start out with a few 5 or 10 km races, but I figure at this point, "go big or go home"! I signed up for a half marathon in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on June 2. I'll be travelling from Alberta and my mom will be travelling from Nova Scotia to cheer me on!
That is one of the big things on my bucket list that even just a few years ago, I didn't think I'd be able to do. After fracturing my knee in 2006 and having recurring injuries every time I'd start training again, I thought I'd never run long distances again (although at that time, my longest run was 12 miles...now it's 19+). For the last few years, I've been doing fairly good. I'm so excited to run that half marathon! Other than that, I'm kind of a "fly by the seat of my pants" kinda girl!
You're active in snow or shine, but if you had to choose, would you rather ski or mountain bike?
That's a really hard one...I don't know if I'd want to choose! I absolutely LOVE skiing, but if I have to weigh the options, I would go with biking because that would mean the weather is nicer! I do prefer the warmer weather to the cold.
There are so many activities to do in the snow, but so many more options for the warmer months of the year, especially in the Rocky Mountains. I don't know how long I'll be posted here, so I've got to take advantage of it while I can!
Running 250 steps must have been tough - what's the story?
It actually wasn't that bad...maybe some huffing and puffing at the top, but nothing my lungs can't handle! My training in the police force incorporates what's called the PARE test...I always found the "stairs" part of it the hardest. So...when that's the case, what would you work on? Stairs! I've climbed a lot of stairs over the years!
Which Tribesports user makes your day?
It depends on the day...and the different periods of time since I joined. I've had some really great supporters who have been constant since the beginning (too many to list) and some who have been awesome at different points in my journey. I'm not talking to people as much as I once was (when I joined TS, I was sick and off work for a bit), but I'd have to say I talk the most to @bradn. He's a great guy and I enjoy my conversations with him...even if he's teasing me most of the time!
