Congratulations Claire - you are the Tribesports User of the Week!
You're currently in the midst of massive fundraising mission for Macmillan - a leading cancer charity in the UK. Chasing a Dream is an amazing motivation to take on massive Challenges, how does it make you feel to be doing so much good for charity?
I feel really thrilled to be able to finally give back to a charity such as Macmillan, a cause close to my heart. The help we have received from them during both my parents Cancer battles is only because of people in the past who have fundraised through sponsored activities. So in a way I am 'paying it forward', my sponsorship will go towards helping families affected by Cancer in the future.
Which Challenge have you felt most pride completing?
My first Chasing a Dream challenge (which I completed on Sunday!) was the Great North Run, my participation was in doubt for the weeks leading up to it, with many suggesting I rested my knee injury and deferred entry to another year. My knee held up until mile 8, the remaining 5 miles were hard but the sense of pride at completing made it all worth it.
Even though Claire has injured her knee in the attempt, she's still got great sense of humour about it:
"I'll do anything for a free t-shirt and a bit of bling :)"
Definitely the Keswick to Barrow 42 mile walk, this was the hardest challenge I had ever put myself through, it took 15 hours and 42 minutes to finish but we did. There were so many points along the way when we wanted to quit, especially when it was 7.30pm on a Saturday night and we were only on mile 30! I could barely walk properly for days afterwards.
You've used a personal trainer in the past, do you notice a difference in your training motivation when you don't have a PT?
I have used a personal trainer in the past, I don’t find my motivation is any different than training by myself as I am quite a driven person, however in the last few months of using him I had become de-motivated as he didn’t particularly pay attention to his job properly.
Your Kilimanjaro climb will be epic - what are you doing to prepare for it?
I have hired a new PT to help me for all my remaining 6 challenges, Kilimanjaro being the last one (well officially anyway) so it will take a lot of training to be physically fit. I am also in communication with people who offer altitude training so that I can minimize the chance of me not being able to summit through altitude sickness.
Which Tribesports users make your day?
Answering this is like asking me to choose between my favourite chocolate bars (erm I mean exercises), I guess the ones who like a little bit of cheeky banter thrown in are the ones that make my day, especially as you can tell they are trying to keep their responses in line with the “family friendly” aspect of TS.
What's your favourite quote?
I have two, one is “Just a little bit further Babe, just a little bit further” He used to stand on the last stretch of my races in school and I always heard him say it, it was used at the point where I was flagging, I always have that quote in my head whenever I train.
The 2nd is : The Ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand at a time of challenge and controversy.
