This is a very deep back bend which is performed in a kneeling position. As a stretch it opens the whole of the front of the body, including the hip flexors and pectoral muscles. The posture improves core strength, spinal, hip and shoulder flexibility and stamina.

Tucking my toes under makes it too easy, but setting the tops of my feet on the floor is painful. Help!

I compromised between Karen and Harini's suggestions for # of breaths and did 12 slow breaths. It's hard...I've never done the pose before and I, too, don't have much flexibility.
