“competed in my first triathlon last year, September. It was only fun distance though, 400 meter swim, 18 km bike and 3 km run. I finished with a time of 1hr and 12mins, and won 2nd place in my age group.”

Great article!
Bill C Completed the first Scorching Bay triathlon on Sunday - last in :o( but beat the time I set myself for both swim & cycle. Swim was horrendous & was all out of go for the run. Maybe there's something in this 'training' people talk about ;o)

Congratulations Bill, hope you are keeping up with your training :)
David B So I just did my very first duathlon. For those who dont' know it is a triathlon with two running components and no swim. I went along with my wife as she was also doing it for the first time and I just paced her. I really enjoyed it, although I didn't put in too much effort so I wasn't knackered, and decided to do more (at my pace this time (which isn't much faster)). I won't be home for one of these events again until Feb or Mar next year, but I will certainly be training for it.

Paula H responded to the guide Your First Triathlon: What Equipment You Really Need
I would add a little section about how to transition.... what you will need on your towel and where to put your bike:) A friend of mine told me what to bring, or I would have not had anything I needed.

wish I would have seen this before I did my first:) I have only done sprint tri's but I took first in the Athena in my last one!
Tony O First so called "brick" training session done. I could swear I heard my leg muscles shout "WTF?!" as I started running.

Stephen M Had an amazing first triahlon. Swim went well, ran at my normal pace and had reasonable transitions (even managed to sucessfully complete the Tribesports featured dismount without falling off). However, for my next I am really going to have to invest in a decent bike. One i used today weighed a tonne and had faulty gears meaning my poor wee legs hard to work even harder.
Stephen M Only 12hrs to my first triathlon...so excited and nervous

Trust me lol, you don't... maybe i shouldn't have mentioned "it is purple" and "speedos" together!!

Tony O Watched this yesterday evening... my first tri definitely won't be an Iron Man but it's certainly very inspiring!

Ben R created the guide Your First Triathlon: What Equipment You Really Need
Now to answer the question, what do you need to start in triathlon? First you need to determine what type of triathlete you really are or want to be. The age-group triathlete (amateur) can be divided broadly into two types of athletes: non-c...
