It was a lot easier to do the crab exercise as a kid, can you do it now? Practising the crab position will to stretch several areas of the upper and lower body improving flexibility and also strengthens muscles in the arms, legs and back, which are working to hold the position.
To complete the challenge, hold the crab position for 30 seconds. The back must be facing the ground, with the legs bent and raising the back off the floor, and arms extended straight backwards for support. Only the feet and hands are to be in contact with the floor.

Marlo W Having my boys do it like it's nothing. did it but I think this should be a daily for me for a while!! And yes it feels so good to stretch those vertebrate. First a pain then a lot of relief. Don't realize how much tension you hold til you get rid of some of it!
Christiana W Did the Crab just now. My palms and socks were slipping on the carpet so the time's not long. However it felt awesome and I think it could help back pain :)

Wish J Same here, I never did it for several years. Tried it today, and said to myself are you kidding me. It so hard now. But things got better in time. What a stretch for lower abdomin and back :)

Velmurugan D first step hold Chakrasana (crab), then walk ur limbs towards each other then try to lift one arm then one leg perpendicular to the floor.............

Beki J I'm struggling with this one. Can't lift my weight up with my hands over my shoulders. Any suggestions as to things I could do to increase my strength in that way?

I am not trained in Yoga Velmurugan, so I do not know better on this one.
It's not my back strength, it's pushing my self up with my arms, I am fine pushing me weight from the front, (i.e. press ups) but this is new to me
downward dog, and any that are similar but have you on all 4's facing the ground. Many yoga positions are mirror images of each other. pushups help with wrist tension and strength also! good luck!

It took me weeks. I made a beginners version of this challenge (just hold for less time) that you might want to consider taking.
I can barely get off the ground right now. Just wondering how long I should expect before I can hold the position correctly.

Beki J Wow - thats hard. Got my self up, but not fully extended my arms. Do your arms have to be straight to complete the challenge?

Justin M Can't quite get the arms straight (need to improve flexibility) and I can only last about 5 seconds with my head off the ground (need to improve strength) but I'm getting there!

just focus more on the posture while doing your excersise, i had a really hard time with posture when i first started and still do at times. i just try to go slower and focus sometimes when i need to.

you have to keep good posture during any excersise or else it will cause upper back and kneck pain

probably just need to stretch it more- have you tried back extentions / superman / rag doll etc.?

i always go up into it xback down very slowly to avoid banging down on the floor.x
