Losing a stone in weight isn't necessarily for everyone, but if you know you are carrying some excess weight (more than a stone), you should be aiming to burn fat and lose a stone as a good target.

Take it steady and dont't resort to drastic changes that you won't be able to keep up, instead look to make sustainable changes to your lifestyle that will last in the long term.

“Christmas 2011, I weighed 74kg (the most I'd ever weighed and I felt horrible). Thanks to a friend persuading me to do Great North Swim 2012, I set off on a fitness regime that has stuck and become part of my lifestyle. I got down to 63kg ahead of the swim and have maintained a steady 66kg and ideal BMI ever since.”

Sinéad M Lose a stone in weight Challenge

Contributorgold Sinéad M I started the year at a round 11st. At least 1st. overweight, and could do with losing another one for good measure. I have managed to lose 3lbs so far this year, and I'm really hoping to keep this downward momentum going and get to my target weight in 2015. Keep me strong, TS!!!

I went on the dry for January - it's made a big difference!!! Also, I've stopped picking, hoovering up my boys' leftovers, and chowing down on selection boxes. Apples, oranges, grapes, or bananas for snacking...

First thing I did was walk from the railroad station to work and back instead of taking the bus. Slightly more than a km each way, makes a nice bit of added movement. I am taking things one habit at a time, but have also started cooking more again, instead of letting hubby do it all the time. More veggies this way.

Lilia V Lose a stone in weight Challenge

Contributorsilver Lilia V My second attempt at this challenge start today....My strategy is to eat lots of fruit & veg salads, pasta and snack on crispy rye bread between meals. 1 fish and 1 red meat meals a week to keep omega 3 and iron levels topped up. Full fat milk and natural cottage cheese for calcium - a must. No cheese, cakes, fizzy drinks, sweets or big meals! Let's see how this goes...
