Val K another attempt soon!
Running 5k in under 30 minutes is the first time for distance goal you should be working towards as a beginner runner. Some might be able to do it first time round but for most newcomers it might take a little bit of training before you can run a 5k.
Run a 5k in under 30 minutes Challenge rules
- Not all types of physical activity are suitable for everyone. Users take Challenges and training advice at their own personal risk.
“Build up to it over the same course, start below 5km and longer than a 6 minute/km pace - aim to improve one or the other each time - longer distance or faster time. Space your runs, enjoy and have fun.”

Vincent R Have a 10K race tomorrow: will have to remember to bring my GPS watch so I can find out what the 5K spilt is. Feeling optimistic!
Yvonne S I've been running 3 times a week for almost a month now. I can feel the improvement, but those 5km are still soooo far away...

Mark H I am a 42 year old man (over weight and type 2 diabetes) that ran my first 5k race on 9/29/12 here in Albuquerque. That first run was 34:12 seconds. Today, almost one year later, 20 pounds lighter, diabetes in check I FINALLY ran a 5k race under 30 minutes!!!!! 29:50 on a hilly course. This is just the beginning. Here I come Run Disney 10 Mile Tower of Terror - I AM READY FOR YOU!!!
