I left handed for a start so I thought that would be my stronger wrist but the only reason I can think it hurts is from when i used to play basketball at uni my wrist would ache. How can I stengthen them so I can try and make it to 10 push ups?

It is likely to be a biomechanical issue or an injury.  If it is biomechanical try a few varying positions when doing the press-ups such as adjusting the wrists and shoulder width.  If it is an injury you need to see a physiotherapist.  Also try doing press...
