“I tried a guava for the first time. Quite an overpowering flavour, I didn;t enjoy all the seeds and I couldn't really work out whether to eat the skin or not. Oh, and don't out them in a lunchbox with sandwiches or your cheese and tomato sarmies will end up tasting like guava as well. They're OK, but won't be at the top of my shopping list any time soon! In South Africa you can buy at the supermarkets in season. Not sure about elsewhere - they grow well in sub-tropical climates.”

Kirstie M Since taking this challenge, I have tried Rambutan (I think that's how you spell it), unripe mango from the tree (tastes like a sharp apple and is delicious), custard apples (which don't really taste of custard, or apples, but is very nice), Jack fruit (odd) and fresh coconut directly from the tree.
Loretta A encouraged this.
Jay J with tea last night I tried beetroot, not the canned variety but the real deal straight from the fruit & veg department. not as strong a flavour as the tinned stuff, but don't think I can see it as a vegetable. beetroot - salads - summer... don't think I'll buy it again :/
Bishop W Tried a "champagne mango"! They are smaller than a typical mango, and they're yellow. They are very sweet, and go great with anything (wrapped with bacon, in a smoothie, as a side dish with homemade Thai food), or alone. My kids and I just cut them and ate them right off the cutting board.
Geir L Yesterday I tried a new type of melon .... not quite sure of the name though .... I was sweet and very nice :-)
