The objective in a judo match is to throw the opponent to the ground, to pin him to the ground or to force him to submit to a choke, strangle or an armlock. When well executed, you can score a ippon, winning the match.
An ippon can be awarded for the following reasons:
- a throw that lands the opponent largely on their back in a controlled manner with speed and force
- a mat hold of sufficient duration (twenty five seconds)
- an opponent submission
The challenge is to win a match by ippon against a judoka having the same belt colour or above.
