The mountains of Whernside (2,415 ft), Ingleborough (2,372 ft) and Pen-y-ghent (2,277 ft) are collectively known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. In "The 3 Peaks Challenge" walkers aim to complete a gruelling 37.5 km to 42 km (depending on route) circuit of all three peaks with nearly 1,600 m (5,249 ft) of ascent and descent within 12 hours, starting and finishing at the same point.

“Done it twice now, best time was 10 hours, when I was a lot less fit than I am now. Would love to go back and run it now, see just how far I can push things. ”
