As Jon A said, just follow the schedule, for abs and upper leg muscles are so big, they don't need resting in this challenge.

Dont rest one Day. Keep going. Try to do Sets of 33 with 40seconds Rest. Look at my Pictures this is what you can achieve only with doing Pushups! No Gym no weights.

What sit-ups, this is the squats challenge, one or the other do them all at once as long as you can, if not first split up in two sets, if more sets are needed, divide the amount in 3 or more.

My personal opinion would that it would need to be on the elliptical because no substitutes are mentioned in the rules. You could always create a similar challenge that includes running instead.
