I keep a bottle of water with me all day and refill it every few hours. Before I'm really awake in the morning, I enjoy pre-boiled warm water with a big slice of lemon (the peel is as nutritious as the juice/pulp) to get my energy flowing before meditation, yoga practice, TS challenges, and pre-dawn running or cycling. Then I follow your sensible hydration program, Sam, except that I count my 7 a.m. green tea (post-boot camp antioxidant) as part of my total hydration. It sure helps extend my unbroken sleep pattern if I have only small amounts of water after 5 pm!
