George K asked the question in Sports Nutrition

Does Green Tea Hydrate you better than water?

I heard a statment that it does, but not sure why it would or how... anyone know more about this? If you know of any research that would be great, I love to see the studies.

Grean tea contains caffiene, which is a diretic, so will actually make you loose water. Yes it has various health beneits etc... So a cup here or there should not be a problem. For hydration water is best.

Very much agree with Garry....Nothing can have a better hydration than water...and Green/black or any kind of tea you take..these have dehydration effect!

Whilst studies seem to suggest that it hydrates you about as well as water and has lots of health benefits, I'd still lean toward suggesting you drink plenty of water! Water's been completely proven to do nothing but good for the body whereas studies are still arguing about how good tea/green tea is in comparison :)

I drink about 2-3 liters of water a day so that is no problem.... Was curious about the comment though

Green tea is mostly water and haydrates as well. I have a hard time drinking water for what ever strange reasons but love green tea. So it for sure helps me stay hydrated. I'm drinking 5-10 cups a day. I would suggest you drink both.

I've always considered water and only water as the stuff I should have round 2 litres of water a day a little more on exercise days any other fluids are extra including green tea. I drink green tea with the pre workout meal and before bed, this seems to make me feel more alert and when it's time for bed I sleep better.

You should always have more water, but a cup or two of green tea is great for the body.  :)
