Katerina B asked the question in Run 3 times a week for 4 weeks

Is there any minimum time?

Just wondering if there is any minimum time required or running for 5min will count the same as running 30min? ;-)

I've been running inconsistently since January. The longest I've gone is ten minutes, but today I ran for the first time in a couple weeks and I only did 6 mins, but I got runner's high four minutes in and sprinted for the last two mins. I felt amazing afterwards! I intend on beginning this challenge next week and improving my time, but I totally think you can get some benefits from running for 5 mins. I know you get more than you would from just sitting in front of the tv.

when you exercise good hormones are produced. running for 5 minutes will not release as many as a 30 min workout meaning there won't be the benefits of a 30 minute workout.

Hi Rhiannon, thank you for the reply. I just thought that some people might be happy running 5 or 10min and count that, so just wanted to make sure every run counts or there is some minimum. I do minimum of 30min, so I am good to go :-)

Mike Y and Laura H encouraged this.

If you are running for cardio depending on how quickly you reach your target heart rate, same applies for fat burning. Calories burned is the goal of one type. Getting to an aerobic state is the other. I think 5 mins is not going to benefit you in either category.
