Samarth A asked the question in Squatters

PAIN

If the pain does not mitigates after 7 days of squatting with 1 day break, is there anything wrong?

I agree with those sentiments, sounds like you are over training your lower body.  I generally do legs once a week altering heavy lifting/lower reps one week and higher reps/lower weights the next.

I also find the second day the most painful with DOMS especially after a lenghty layoff from that particular body part...especially legs!

Yoga poses line "Vajrahsana"(Dimond thorne pose and "Janu Shirsasana" (Head-to-Knee forward bend are good for exercising hemstrings stretched while performing squats. IT could be done in circuits.

Good Samarth, sounded like you needed the break before you broke!   Remember, you are not growing muscle mass at the gym - it only grows while you are resting (repairing).

I used to get pain in the lower legs when doing squats. Then I changed to a wider stance, and it didn't happen any more. So I think there are a lot of slightly different things you can do with squats – distance of feed apart, angle of feet, shoes or not – and if what you are doing is causing a definite odd pain, instead of just normal muscle soreness, then experiment with slightly different ways of doing it.

where is the pain and what kind of pain is it? Also please clarify your routine, is it 7 days in a row of squatting, one day rest? One day squatting with 7 days rest? Or one day squat followed by one day rest repeated over the course of a week?

Its the normal pain that we get while exercising. I do squats for 2 days followed by a break. So, basically 4 times in 6 days. Generally, pain alleviates in 2-3 days but this time its been there for more than that. Is it because i started doing it after a long gap?

I'm assuming you are doing weighted barbell squats?

Whenever you come back to doing an exercise after a long period of time the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that you feel will last longer.

However based on your routine I would say that you are probably squatting far too often, for a big exercise like squats, I would give yourself at least 48 hours rest in between squat sessions.

If you are constantly overtraining your muscles, they will never have time to recover properly and will not rebuild or grow to their full potential, in fact you may actually be negatively impacting your muscles by overworking them.

You will see much better gains if you limit your sets to 4 or 5 in a session, using a weight that you can handle with proper form, but still causes you to work hard. Follow this up with a 48 hour rest gap where you do no squats or heavy resistance leg training.

e.g. Squat monday at 12. p.m, rest 48 hours, squat wednesday at 12p.m, you will see much better results in the long run.

Let me know if you have anymore questions or if I have misunderstood you.

7 days!  Yikes, better just chill for awhile and do some stretching.  How many set's of squats/reps are you doing?
