Audrey D asked the question in Calculate Your Body Fat Percentage.

Reducing body fat

So how would I go about losing body fat and not muscle? Everytime that I lose weight, I especially lose my upper body muscle mass.

It's mostly about what you eat and a little about how you train.  Make sure you feed your body enough protein- enough times per day, to keep it burning carbs and fat.  Try cutting out carbs in your meals at night.  Work hard at your cardio, but don't neglect to continue to lift and engage those muscles.  It is a slower process... but it's all about the long term.  This has been the information I was given by my trainer.  Hope it helps!

Thank you Josh. Especially for reminding us that this is a slower process. I always want things to happen..right now...! Perfection (or what we perceive as perfection) is a process that takes time when trying to do it the healthy way.

Thanks for all the great information. My typical mistake is that when I do lots of cardio, I stop doing weight training. I'll make sure to keep it in my weekly training plan and get that protein :)

Great!  keep in mind that the more muscle you have... the more calories your body burns on a daily basis!
