Chris R asked the question in Speedsters

running technique improvements?

I try to concentrate on lifting my knees more and using the front of my feet more but then i have to concentrate on my breathing and i lose focus and start to stamp the ground again is this something that will come with time and a more focused effort as i get fitter or is there anything else I can do?

Chris...drills is the answer to re teach your body how to do things and remap new patterns of movements in your brain. Have a look at some of the videos posted in the Tribe and see what you think. Your breathing will improve while doing the drills and they ll all become second nature.

And yes you have to be patient, changing your gait and re learning things could take a long time, I would say that you usually see the results depending on your training after 6 months. But by that time you will feel you are running more efficiently and stronger.

You could perhaps better your overall biomechanics by generally being looser - particularly around your pelvis and hips. Commit to a regime that will help you do this. I do Feldenkrais but its lack of structure is not for everybody.

I followed Nikos advice on drills and it is starting to work nicely, not just around speed but keeping pace for longer as you maintain your running with better efficiency for longer
