Andrew T asked the question in Beginners badminton…
There's the flat power smash, slice smash, net tumbler, forehand drive, back hand smash, cross court drop shot and many others. My favourite is a sliced back court drop-shot...what's yours?

Probably a backhand smash, though I'm not always accurate, or a slice.
I do like to fake a smash with a dropshot but you look a right fool if you don't get it over the net.

Went down to play with the office on Wednesday - pretty good fun but we weren't exactly pros. Need to learn how to get the power of the shot to go into the speed of the shutttlecock, it was like slow motion most the time! Any tips?
Theres a whole bunch of factors, what sort of shuttle are you using ? maybe its a too slow one, there are different speeds you can get. Power can come from technique too...
Something I only came across recently is that shuttles are not only rated on speed but temperature is also a factor. I'd always played with the fastest shuttles but recently dropped to medium. It was very slow to begin with but once you get used it you can get some speed up again. I also found that it has lead to lengthier rallies which really add to the enjoyment of the game.
I do prefer longer rallies as I don't really play competitively - prefer to get to move around the court rather than having some smash the shuttle all the time!

I love the front cross net drop. This stroke is very useful for both single and doubles match.
