Marc S created the guide Team training drills to improve heading and aerial ability
The training drills in this guide will improve the heading and aerial ability of your team which are vital attributes to have in a football match when defending long balls, attacking in the box and trying to win possession in the middle of the pit...
Marc S created the topic Wenger, In or Out?
I've posted this in the Football Players section, but was also interested in coaches' views. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the Wenger situation at Arsenal? After the Bayern Munich game things really look desperate. It was poignant...
Adrian K responded to the guide Football Kit that every Coach should bring to training
Spare shin pads and tape, great extras to carry around, because you know there will always be someone who forgets them.
Not to mention toilet roll, although luckily have never been in a situation where it has been required before a match yet.
Marc S created the guide Football Kit that every Coach should bring to training
This may not be the most exciting guide you’ll ever read but it’s probably one of the most essential as a football coach. As Coach it‘s your responsibility to organise training sessions and be prepared on match days. That doesn’t just mean trying...
Carter B replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Coming from a player it has to be a mix, it can't be full disiplin all the time or eles it wears us down and fast. Sure it makes you a better team but it can cause then not to like their coaches. To lax and your team doesent work hard enough and y...
Oliver H answered the question Coaching team sport
I know a neat one in a circle actually. Get all your players in a circle with 1 ball/puck to start with (you can progress to 2 and 3 later on). Passing the ball to your right/left (up to you) miss out the person dire...
Oliver H answered the question Coaching team sport
You could make two columns of players and get them to pass a ball/puck to the other column and have them follow their pass. It's very basic and shouldn't be done for too long - it can get boring. Unfortunately, I don...
Julie B replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
A lot of what was discussed re:parent, player & coach contract is standard issue in our youth hockey league. As well, it is mandatory to have a parent representative that is the go-between on hot button issues between the parents and the coaches...
Julie B asked Coaching team sport
Ok since I live in Canada (8-10 months of ice hockey per year) I coach that instead of football. Are there any easy passing drills that anyone can think of that can be easily adapted from football/soccer to hockey? Keep in mind that my charges a...

back on this topic there was an awesome guide just written on this subject: Football players
Alex N replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Yeah I passed. He said he was impressed so pretty happy. Just have to wait for an email/phonecall telling me when to start. Can't wait!
Adrian K replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Great input Nick. Sounds like the kids competitiveness comes from his dad. How did the Fulham interview go btw Alex.
Will R replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
I agree Roy has enough tactical nouse to push into the knock out stages. Harry Rednapp is way too unpredictable and I cant see him leaving Spurs unless they don't qualify for the Champions League.
My vote goes to outsider Guardiola as surely he k...
David H replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
The reason why the England first teamers are 'highly rated' is because we (the English fans) and the English media are (understandably, perhaps) totallly myopic. We only see these players on a consistent basis, and therefore become blinded to the...
Adrian K replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
If you consider how highly rated most of the England first teamers are within the premiership, you would expect them to be up there. But yeah I agree, they aren't all that great compared with some of the Spanish or Dutch.
Alex N replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
Obviously I'm biased as a Fulham fan but I don't blame Roy for Liverpool. They wanted Kenny and got Roy, and the players never seemed to even try for him. The club was a mess and never really backed him. I'm worried it might not work out for him a...
Adrian K replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
Interestingly when I heard about it, it actually reminded me a bit of the McLaren era.. Still I guess we should give him a chance.. Although I heard Guardiola was looking for a new job...
David H replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
I suspect Harry had too many skeletons in his cupboard to be seriously considered: he would have been reminiscent of Terry Venables; which, of course, is a shame because the England team was buzzing under el Tel.
Roy Hodgson reminds me of Bobby R...
Adrian K replied to the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
I'm not sure, he was pretty terrible at Liverpool.. Don't know how he would handle such a big appointment. Redknapp would have been good just to de-stabilise Spurs haha
Alex N created the topic Roy Hodgson England Manager?
What do people think about Roy Hodgson as England manager? Hasn't been confirmed yet but I'd be quite happy with the appointment.
Alex N replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Some really good stuff guys thanks. Will definitely give the 'army discipline' a go.
I was thinking of introducing a sin bin area this weekend, hope it works!
Can't really talk to this guys parents becuase they don't speak english! Dad seems pre...
Nick B replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
I love your suggestion @cags.
This is the perennial question. The secret is to keep them engaged and have plenty of variety in the training. Inevitably they just want to play football rather than train or do drills so I have a huge pool of drill...
Cags R replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Maybe you could use his army aspirations as a tool to get him to behave - rather than sitting him out get him doing military bootcamp style discipline - push ups etc. Might get him to calm down and helps his fitness as well!
Adrian K replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
The kid sounds nuts, he's still a kid.. Not sure how I'd handle it tbh, find it difficult to relate to kids in my 20's, little brother is difficult enough sometimes.
The age groups probably don't help if he feels like he has outgrown and outperf...
Alex N replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
To be fair the group I find hardest is a group of 7-11 year olds. I think the difficulty does really stem from such a difference in age within the group. It really shouldn't be only one group but that's what I've been given and have to work with....
Cags R replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
I think disruptive kids are often just after some attention - how old are the groups that you teach?
Adrian K replied to the topic Discipline in youth football
Does sitting them out work to sort out their behavior?
