Chris F answered the question Why do you lift heavy sh*t?
Because lifting heavy gives better results than lifting light.

Do you have a passion for weight lifting? Does moving mounds of iron give you a thrill? Weight lifting doesn't care if you have good days or bad days. What matters is you and your adversary - cold steel. Henry Rollins said it best,
"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."

For the same reason that people climb mountains or run marathons: because we can't do it until the time when we DO do it. And then we want to lift something bigger or more repeatedly. It's about conquering goals.
