The rule that I threw away was that you can't get it back later. I just upped my Roman Chair workout to 300 reps.

Nice one Eran! You'll be great in January, nervous but great. The key thing is to 'BELIEVE' in your training and the mileage you'll keep building up on your long slow runs. Just keep listening to your body, find your rythm of running and br...

Although it's being championed more and more these days. I reckon you can have that because the overwhelming majority off runners still use running shoes or barefoot simulated running shoes that are coming on the market. Keep it up but be carefu...

Hi Nocturnal, thanks for your comment! I completely agree with you, and trust me, I have HUGE respect for distance. I run long runs as often as I can, totalling currently 60 - 65 km a week with at least one 25+ run. The point I was trying to m...

Eran. If you have not run anything longer than 36km, you need to know that a full-marathon distance is very different from half-marathon. Our body starts to deplete its sugar store around 30km, and we may feel so drained out that the remaini...

That is so great to hear Marce, thanks.. Got my first marathon comming up this January, and can't help but feel frustrated for not having a plan and just turn for fun.. I understand the need for a steady progress, interval running and all that, bu...

Agreed Elaine. If it feels good, go with it, if something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it and take it down a few notches.

I think its all relevent to how fast you want to run... I've competed 2 56mile races. The first with 3 days a week training the second with as litle as twice a week. My time were much the same, but defenetaly more towards the back of the pack, aro...

While I'll never run a marathon, I agree that our bodies are our best guides when it comes to training. Generic training plans can be scary because they are taken on with a "one size fits all" mentality and since we're all different, that can be d...

Runs are meant to be broken and if it feels right just go for it!

I love this idea! I have fought losing weight my entire life. The only way I have lost weight and toned up is by following a lifestyle that works for me!

This is so true. There are so many rules for living a healthy lifestyle or having the body that you've always wanted. Others would say eat less of this or eat more of that. Blah blah blah... I have come to a point of realization that I want MY OW...

Pfft! Rules. Who needs 'em. I'm just starting to exercise and if it feels right, I do it.

I don't still to this calorie counting nonsense, eat sensible and if I'm hungry I eat. I started running and was running 3 miles 3x a week. Starting a 3 mile run felt good and ended up doing 6 and felt so good

i think this is one of the true essence of running, having fun and listening to your body :)

People say that anything less than 10km are junk miles. But during my 1st marathon training, I was too tired during the weekday to do much. Only occasional 5-7km jogs. I'd just finished my 7th marathon and though I now run an average of 3 times...

I'll have to give Yoga a go one day Susan. Everyone I know have found it beneficial.

Agreed Theresa and Brenda. I've known a couple of people who've pushed themselves too hard before their bodies were ready, simply by following a plan too much, and not listening to their bodies enough, the result was a DNS for a challenge due to...

I agree Barry, it's like marching to the beat of your drum, regardless of what's going on around you.

I have never been good with rules so this seems like a great tribe for me! Practicing Yoga keeps me aware of my body and helps me to focus on what it needs in each moment.

Same here. Never followed any programmes. I want to enjoy my runs. Have done a couple of marathons. You're right Theresa. Listen to your body!!!!!
Theresa C replied to the topic Marathon running
I completely agree with this idea, I find that programs are too prescriptive and don't allow youi to listen to youur body, it them becomes a have to instead of a want to, I am doing the same thing with marathon training and did the same thing last...
