David B commented on the blog post Intermediate Calisthenics Workout from Al Kavadlo
I used to be reasonably fit, but I let myself go the last 5 years after getting out of the Navy. Time to get back into it. I currently work as a medic on a ship, so exercise can sometimes be a problem but I do what I can.
There have been some improvements since I started here. I feel better, I'm a little fitter and I have done my first competition event. So all in all a good start, here's to more in the future.
Well, it was only Dec 2012 that I ran my first 10km, now 6 Feb 2013 I have done 15km. Someone pull me back to earth! Please. WoooooooHooooooooooo!!!!!
More to this; 27th Apr 2013 I ran 21km. Take the WooHoo from abouve and insert here!! :)
It has taken me about 5 months to go from 5km to 21km, I am pretty impressed with myself.
I just did my first official half marathon on Sunday 2nd June 2013 in 2:01:10.

David B answered the question Am I too heavy and tall to run distance?
Mate, your height and weight are fine. There is no reason, unless you have a medical condition, that you can't run more and further. I don't know what you are running at the moment, but increase your distance incr...

Unfortunately these things take time to heal. You may need to rest your ankle completely for several weeks, no running or leg workouts. Obviously you can still walk, you do need to get around, unless you have slaves to do everything for you!

Good advice mate, I would also look at doing very small reps from time to time, 3 - 5 reps. This can help break a plateau. Try doing things like supersets and giant sets, these, when done right, are mega plateau breakers. Take shorter brea...
David B replied to the topic Time to Toss OUt the BMI?
I was a medic in the Aussie Navy, we had a policy that anyone with a BMI of over 30 had to see a doctor to get a clearance. Not a bad policy as as you have said there are many who do not fit the BMI bill who are physically fit and healthy, so...

You may need to change your running style. It can hurt your calfs at first, but try running flat footed or better yet on your toes. As Tony G said, try minimalist shoes.
I use the Fila Skeletoes, but i am moving to the Vibram five fingers s...

You are quite correct, the chest itself is not a big muscle; however with all of the accessory muscles required to bench (flat, incline, decline, flyes, push ups etc.) you hit a whole lot of muscles that then give you an overall upper body wo...
David B replied to the topic Shin Splints
Google: taping shin splints. There are heaps of videos about it. Different types of tape such as; Kinesio, KT tape (brand names) and normal strapping tape. Just because the shoes were professionally fitted doesn't mean they are right. Unless...

As far as you abs go, you cannot spot reduce, it all comes off at the same rate. Check your diet. Below are some recommendations for exercises that will help to reduce overall body fat.
Loads of heavy legs and chest workouts, the two big muscle...

Couldn't agree more. For fit and healthy people it is worthless, it should only be used as a guide for obese people. Notice I said a GUIDE, it is not the be all and end all. A tape measure works wonders, as do your pants.

Do you know how to stretch them??
Shin splints are not in the bone as many people believe. They are from overused and stressed shin muscles.
You can stretch them out by placing your toes, pointed to the ground, slighlty behind you and then pushi...

Possible solutions: 1. Get yourself a foam roller; unbelievable for relieving any pain in the area. I had a similar problem for several weeks, I started to use one and it worked almost immediately. 2. Start (al...

David B answered the question Running and toenail change colour ???
Wow! I didn't get any of that. I wear the Fila Skeletoes, they look weird but are really comfy. They separate your toes, maybe tat is why I had no issues with my toes. My thights on the other hand... ouch.
