I can't be defined by one sport, I love them all! Except maybe snooker. And darts. As long as I get my daily endorphin fix I'm happy!

practiced the route for Thursday's lunchtime fun run... hilly and hard. Didn't help that i was battling horizontal hail and freezing rain for 5 miles!

Excellent timing considering the weather. Keep it up.

Laurie W after having got changed for my circuits session this lunchtime, i realised i left my trainers in the car. So I ran barefoot across the [outdoor] carpark to retrieve my shoes. I think I can safely say that I will not be transitioning to completely barefoot running for a while - wet, gravelly tarmac is PAINFUL and bloody cold!

first "long" run of marathon training. lovely crisp morning but calves super sore now and i can't find my Stick. :( anyone have any ideas for deep stretching/massaging calves?
encouraged this.
Ice bath first or alternate cold and warm in the shower, or a foam roller, or a rolling pin or a tennis ball although small you can roll it and stop at trigger points. I would not over stretch the muscles as they are still tender so gentle stretches and gradually through the day increase the flexion. Does this help at all? And it was a super lovely morning with a super gorgeous moon

Laurie W so, as i ramp up my mileage in preparation for marathon training, my toe that was brutally separated from its nail in April's marathon is starting to hurt again... do i need bigger running shoes? (it's a bit late to start going barefoot)
encouraged this.
i'm a little bit allergic to runnersneed (they once assessed my gait all wrong and sold me shoes that put me out of running for 6 months!) but you're right, i should prob get a running shop opinion.
Yes wide toebox shoes will save your nails, no black ones either, no blisters. I can recommend a few but I would start from the vivo barefoot evo II, then the nb minimus trail that you can use on roads more than fine an you can try the merrell trail gloves. Your feet will thank you. If you want something more conventional looking, then inov-8 the road x series as the bare-x series still needs developing. The 2012 nb minimus road version looks wonderful but out in January I think Regarding pronations and stuff, I would suggest to re map your gait and tweak your biomechanics instead of using the shoes to correct bad biomechanics that they don't. Stay close to the ground, we meant to
Well, my own opinion is to go minimalist, even try Nike Frees?

not sure of timings for today's lunchtime trail run - 1M warm up, 3 x 1M progressively faster, 1M cool down. Love that it's still warm enough to run in shorts and t-shirt! Am boycotting the running tights for as long as possible!
