Martin S @martin

I occasionally referee football matches, mad but challenging; whether it is a cycle ride on or off road, running for fun, skiing or even Pilates, I JUST LOVE IT!! My new challenge for 2013 is to complete a full marathon! I have entred the Virgin London Marathon in April, this will be my first organised race, scary..!!

Martin S Sleeping Yogi Challenge

Contributorgold Martin S ....I think this maybe mission impossible for a big boned runner, lol : D Very well done Meghan for completing, super amazing, very impressive : D : D

Not necessarily. It's not about the bones as it is about flexibility. There are some larger people in my yoga sessions that may surprise you with the poses they can do.

Martin S
Well I have to admit, I found this course extremely tough, especially the first half which was very hilly! It was going great guns until extreme cramp set into both my 'calves' at mile 23 to 25, which stopped me running and could only progress by walking although painful and slow, ouch!!!. To sum it up, I made it round, (yes with tears of joy....why do I alway seem to run further, both app and garmin indicating 27.5 miles??) and yes.... I finished the last part of the course strong.....as for my dream target time sub 4.00hrs, that will have to wait for another day! I hope everone had a great long weekend! : D

Sorry for the delay in posting. its been so busy here! I'm so pleased so you had a lovely few days, the weather seems to be warming up nicely.Like you, swimming in open water is just fantastic, albeit the next best thing to sea and surf, right? : D Wow, I didnt know that you had entered a half marathon, how brilliant.....was this a local race....how did you do....were you able to to run barefooted, I hope you are feeling ok post race? Yes, so, so pleased that you are able to enjoy the freedom of barefeet again, pure joy!

My Summary of the Liverpool Rock and Roll marathon; as you are aware and due to one thing or another, my preparation for this race was a little intermittent. Pre-race nerves was probably the body’s way of indicating that thing haven’t gone well knowing from previous experience this distance is tough! Well the course was advertised as being fast and flat with lots of live groups performing at mile intervals. Well, the elevation gain was recorded at 3,421 feet and 3,458 loss, that’s not flat, it felt like I was running up hill continually for the first half of the race : O To target a sub 4 hrs., my aim was to run 20 miles in 3 hrs or better in which I achieved, so far so goo, so I thought!!...cramp set into my calves and by mile 23 the pain was so intense that I had to slow down to walking speed until mile 25 where I felt able to run for glory. The last four miles seem to go on forever, it was straight and long taking us along the road adjacent the River Mersey with a very warm head wind! When I finished the whole physical race journey, the physical race pain turned to emotion, tears of absolute joy I’m sure, lol : D The music that was promised didn’t really happen either, other than a few groups (no more than four) music was being blaring from load speakers I guess computer processed stuff….Hey, all the same, it was an amazing experience, The Liverpuddlian’s are so funny (the women are super dressed up, and guess at a ratio of 5 to 1 women / men), the men are all born comedians; the city is buzzing with life especially down Mathew Street which is where the Beetles made a bar called the Cavern Famous, so post-race celebrations was good! Well, back to the drawing board, I keep saying to myself, ‘ you can if you try; sub four planning here I come, LOL : D : D

Hi Martin! I know the traveling gets hectic & can be a little stressful. Traveling is fun but you still do need to rest & decompress a little after the trip. Especially one like that one. Imagine how you'd feel after doing a Hawaiian Ironman, all that plus jet-lag. The lakes are fine right now but in a few weeks they're going to get weedy with the algae blooms, & some of them will get pretty disgusting. Took me a while to get all the slimy mud out of my hair after doing that underwater lotus headstand challenge. It was a local race & I did run it barefoot. I saw 2 other barefoot runners but it was right before we started so I didn't have an opportunity to say hello & comment on our excellent taste in running shoes, & I lost them in the pack so I didn't get the chance after the race either. I've seen in such races in other locales where they actually have a "barefoot division," but I haven't seen any such thing in races around here. My time was 1:38 & post-race I felt great, albeit a little windy. I did some yoga stretches as part of the cool-down, then while I was checking out my pads a passer-by noticed that I had no doffed shoes by where I was sitting. He asked if I had run barefoot, then had about a dozen questions about it. So hopefully I got to educate someone.

Pre-marathon tapering; a steady club run along a disused rail track, through a wood that was full in bloom with bluebells (so beautiful) and across a plain....a superb way to blow away the stresses of a busy day :D
